Uniting
Georgia’s 200,000 Educators
Our
goal is to unite all Georgia educators into one state organization,
which will truly advocate for better benefits for all Georgia educators.
What would happen if all 200,000 Georgia educators united into one
voice for better salaries, increased retirement benefits and an end
to the state salary step structure that discriminates against veteran
teachers? What if this organization actually communicated with its members
and called them into action on important issues facing Georgia educators?
We
dont have a luxury office suite, nor are any of us
running for any elected office. The Georgia Teachers Organization is
staffed by an all volunteer group (members) of Georgia educators working
for better working conditions for all Georgia educators. One of the
goals of GTO is to inform all educators in the state of important issues
facing the profession and to solicit action by educators
as the need arises. The organization will develop, maintain and use
an email communication network to inform all Georgia educators of pertinent
issues. Support our profession by joining
our efforts. Our membership dues are only $25 per year, which maintains
our efforts. Join now to help support
your future as a Georgia educator.
We
support the immediate passage of the legislation which will improve
teacher benefits and morale. We support full retirement for Georgia
educators after 25 years of faithful service with no early retirement
penalty. Every state bordering Georgia has this retirement benefit for
their teachers. Why is Georgia the only state without this retirement
benefit?
We
firmly believe having a quality teaching staff in the classroom can
help solve Georgias educational problems. The staff must
be highly motivated, have excellent morale, and be well compensated.
Joining our organization, for an annual commitment
of only $25.00 supports:
- Passage
of a 25-year, no penalty, retirement bill. Alabama educators can
retire with 25 years of service and seek the best jobs in Georgia
at the
highest wages (they have 25 years of service) and retire in 10 years
(35 years of service) with a second pension. Georgia educators should
not be penalized!
- The
end of salary step caps at 20 years of service. Georgia penalizes
its master teachers by ending salary step increases at 20 years of
service.
- Increased
salaries for educators with masters, specialist and doctorate degrees.
- Increasing
the retirement benefit to 3% for each year of service therefore
25-years
of service x 3%= 75% of salary at retirement, instead of the current
60%.
There are Georgia state employees currently receiving 90% of their
salary during their retirement. Should Georgia educators be afforded
the same percentage?
